The African proverb speaks little, but it says much. It touches the heart, challenges the conscience, and invites reflection. It does not impose itself: it illuminates. And very often it stays engraved in the memory far longer than a long speech.
As Christians, we also recognize this as a way in which God addresses humanity. In the Bible, and notably in the book of Proverbs and in the words of Jesus, God has recourse to simple images and to comparisons drawn from daily life in order to reveal profound truths. Jesus himself taught in parables, so that each might understand according to his own heart and experience.
It becomes natural, then, to bring these two forms of wisdom together: that of our African cultures and that of the Word of God.
It is within this dynamic that the work of Professor Moussa Bongoyok is situated. A native of Cameroon, and more precisely of the Far North Region, which is marked by a strong Islamic presence, he has carried since his youth a deep commitment: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ faithfully, intelligibly, and relevantly to his contemporaries.
